Congrats again, Mommies-to-be! You’ve entered a new milestone of your pregnancy, and things at this stage are starting to feel more noticeable. At 18 weeks pregnant, your baby is growing quickly, and you might see some improvement in your appetite or cravings. You could also notice a few new symptoms and shifts in your body.
Around this time, many of you may start to feel light, fluttery baby movements for the first time. These small changes mark an important part of the journey. You’re also closer to your mid-pregnancy anatomy scan, where you’ll get a detailed look at your baby’s growth.

How Big is Your Baby?
At 18 weeks, your baby is about the size of a bell pepper, measuring roughly 14.2 centimetres and weighing close to 190 grams. Although the baby still appears small, they are becoming more active, stretching, moving their arms and legs, and starting to develop a soft coat of hair called lanugo. Their muscles and bones are getting stronger, while important organs like the liver and pancreas begin to function.
Your Body At 18 Weeks Pregnant
As your baby grows, your body is adapting in many ways. You may experience round ligament pain, which feels like sharp twinges as the uterus expands. Apart from this, you may also notice differences in skin appearance like darker patches on the face and linea nigra (the pregnancy line down the belly). Both of these are harmless and can go away after delivery.
In addition to that, many expectant mums find their energy levels returning back around this time, which can feel like a welcome relief after the early weeks. It’s also normal to still experience some symptoms like headaches, nosebleeds, or leg cramps. Taking things slow, staying hydrated, and keeping yourself active with gentle movement can really help ease these feelings.
Preparing for Anamoly Scan
Between 18 and 20 weeks, many mamas-to-be have their detailed ultrasound called the anatomy scan. This is a prenatal scan that checks for about 11 conditions in the baby.
If yours is coming up soon, your doctor will carefully look at your baby’s heart, brain, spine, kidneys, and other organs. They’ll also check where the placenta is and how much amniotic fluid is around the baby.
Simple Ways to Stay Healthy
In pregnancy, even small good habits and lifestyle changes can keep you and your baby healthy. Here’s what to follow:
- Try gentle exercises like prenatal yoga, pelvic floor workouts, or just going for a walk. These activities help keep the blood flowing, ease muscle aches, and keep up your energy.
- Pregnancy can feel like a rollercoaster, but a calm, positive mind really helps.
- Keep your water bottle close and sip it throughout the day. Staying hydrated reduces swelling and helps with digestion, too.
- Focus on eating a balanced meal. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and proteins to give your baby the nutrients they need to grow healthier.
- Don’t skip your prenatal vitamins. They’re packed with essential nutrients your baby needs to grow strong and healthy every day.
- Lastly, stay on top of your doctor’s appointments. If you have any worries or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. It’s completely normal to have questions and clear away your doubts.
A Quick Note Before You Go
Being 18 weeks pregnant is a special time, filled with progress and new experiences. Your baby is growing stronger, and you’re getting closer to meeting them. Some days you’ll have energy; on others, you’ll want to take it easy, and that’s perfectly normal. Enjoy your bump, take notes of every flutter, and go at your own pace. Every step counts as you prepare for the weeks ahead.
